Please use this tool to help you calculate the stamp duty charged on purchases of property.

What is Stamp Duty ? Stamp Duty is a Government Tax payable on the purchase of a property.

The amount of Tax payable is a percentage of the purchase price and the bands are as follows:-

Purchase price - £0 to £125,000 = nil %, £125,001 to £250,000 = 1%,
£250,001 to £500,000 = 3% and £500,001 and above = 4%.

Please remember to include the relevant cost in your budget when you are considering purchasing a property.

Currently there is no Stamp Duty to pay when you remortgage.

Since November 2001 stamp duty exception has been available for the purchase of property in certain designated disadvantage areas of the UK, and where the consideration, or premium for a lease, does not exceed £15000.00.
